Is Me Wearing Flats Really A Big Deal?

My friend Glenda and I arrive at Maggiano’s and park in the parking garage.  The people we are meeting for Sunday dinner have already arrived, and are waiting patiently for us. We frantically reach for the heels we were previously wearing as we remove the “flats” from our feet.  Glenda looks at me and says, “Girl, you never know WHO might be in there.”  You’re right! I said. I was single and didn’t want to look like I wasn’t ready to mingle because I wasn’t dressed to impress (or at least not from the ankles down)But my feet were now swollen from wearing the extra pair of “rescue me now from the torture of these amazing looking 3 1/2in. heels” sandals I keep on stand-by in my purse . I’d worn them for the entire 45 minute commute to the restaurant and they now won’t fit back into the high-heeled shoes I was wearing earlier that day. “Oh girl, just forget it. My feet won’t fit now” I told her. I went on and on about how, if “Mr. Right was inside, he’d just have to see me in sandals.
Of course as a single woman you ALWAYS make it a point to look nice whenever you’re away from home, but I think we were a little bit more cautious today because of a comment we’d seen on twitter earlier that week.  An NBA star had commented on Twitter about how men HATE “THESE” SHOES and attached a picture of a woman wearing a pair of plaid flats. I would agree that the pattern of the shoes appeared quite tacky to me, but what stuck in my mind more was the idea that Men hate these shoes! Really?!? Was it the pattern or the idea of women wearing flats that men “hate”. Perhaps the woman’s feet hurt. Quite possibly she’d entered the party with an impressive pair of Stiletto heels, but after making her rounds through the crowd, her feet started to hurt, and she traded class for comfort.

Is it really such a big deal that women wear heels ALL the time?!!? Understand, I am a woman with a foot created especially for heels and I wear them often. I only own ONE pair of tennis shoes, that I primarily use for jogging, so I understand the look that my legs have when I slide my feet into a NICE pair of high-heeled shoes, but men HATING flats?!?! Is that too far? Is that too much?! Is that even the general consensus of men?!?  I’ll admit that his comment did make me think twice about wearing my sandals inside the restaurant but seriously, if pain is beauty the amount of beauty I display is limited. Heels it is………….until my feet get tired, and then I’ll be wearing flats (yes, they’ll be super cute but they’ll still be FLAT!)
